A few days ago I posted a Substack concerning the recent story in The New York Times about an American flag being flown upside-down at the Alito’s private residence.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/justice-alito-upside-down-flag.html
I suggested that the association of flying an inverted flag with the fledgling “Stop The Steal” movement in January of 2021 was not strong enough to make the picture newsworthy at that time. I went on to accuse The Times of holding on to the picture in order to write a story 3 years later that would be more profitable. I suggested that the author of this story, Jodi Kantor, had somehow participated in this scheme in order to increase her personal visibility.
I was wrong.
I could offer lame explanations of how pride and arrogance played major roles in the decision to write and publish my screed. I’ll save that for another Substack. The only thing that is important now is
My apology to my readers and to the New York Times.

The perception of bias is all that is needed for Alito to recuse. The author has her own reasons for publishing now.
